Pierce
Welcome To Pierce
Pierce is a town of about 1,100 people on US-85, sixteen miles north of Greeley and twenty-one from Fort Collins by way of CO-14. It was incorporated in 1918 and named for General John Pierce, president of the Denver Pacific Railroad, which is the reason a town this size has a Main Street at all. People buy here for the same reason they buy in Ault or Eaton — a real town with a grocery store and a school district, at a price that has not caught up with Fort Collins, and twenty minutes from a job in either direction.

What It's Like To Live In Pierce
Things To Do In Pierce
Pierce is a working agricultural town, not a destination, and the honest version is that most of what you do here is outside or twenty minutes away. What it does have is its own history still standing on Main Street: the old post office, the general store, the mercantile — whose antique shop still opens some days — and the lumber yard. Greeley is sixteen miles south for anything the town does not carry, Fort Collins twenty-one miles west, and the Pawnee National Grassland opens up east of town.
Restaurants & Dining
Pierce has a grocery store on Main Street, which matters more than it sounds when the alternative is a sixteen-mile drive for milk. For dining, most people head to Ault a few minutes south, or into Greeley. Rather than name a restaurant that may have changed hands since this page was written, the nearest-restaurant panel above reads live from Google, so it stays current.

There is no municipal dog park. On most Pierce lots that is beside the point — yards here are generous by Front Range standards, and the town is small enough to walk. If fencing matters to you, it is worth checking what is actually there rather than what the listing photos suggest, because a lot of rural fence line is livestock fence rather than dog-proof.
Best Hikes & Trails Near Pierce
This is plains country, not foothills. The Pawnee National Grassland lies east, with the Pawnee Buttes trail its best-known walk — a genuinely striking one, and quiet almost any day of the year. For mountain trails, people here drive west through Fort Collins to the Poudre Canyon.
Schools & Commute From Pierce
Schools: Weld RE-9 School District (Highland — serving Ault, Pierce, Nunn and Carr). Commute: 16 miles to Greeley on US-85, and 21 miles to Fort Collins via CO-14. Both are genuine twenty-to-thirty-minute commutes on open road rather than stop-and-go, which is the trade Pierce offers: you drive further and you drive faster. Highland's schools are in Ault, a few minutes south, and Weld RE-9 runs bus routes across 539 square miles. Pierce is small enough that inventory is thin — some months there is very little for sale, and a house that fits you may not be listed the week you start looking. That cuts both ways: it is also why a well-marketed listing here does not sit. Christine has sold three homes in Pierce, including 14775 County Road 88 and two on 4th Street, so she knows what the buyer pool actually looks like and what it pays. If you are looking at acreage outside the town limits, the questions change entirely — wells, septic, water rights, legal access — and those are worth walking the property for before you write an offer.

Small-town Colorado is wonderful right up until you need dinner and a tank of gas. Here is the real answer for Pierce — drive time, not straight-line distance, because out here those are not the same number.
